Airbnb Turnover Cleaning in Vancouver Under BC’s Short-Term Rental Rules
Turnover cleaning is the reset between guests: strip the beds, clean the bathrooms and kitchen, restock the basics and check the unit before the next arrival. In B.C., short-term rental rules do not tell you how to clean, but they affect how you run your rental. Hosts must register with the Province, and in Vancouver the rental generally has to be your principal residence, with a City licence. This guide summarizes those rules from official sources, then gives you a turnover checklist and the questions to ask a company that offers Airbnb and short-term rental cleaning. It is general information, not legal advice.
BC’s Short-Term Rental Rules, in Plain Language
Last checked October 14, 2026. Rules, fees and dates change, so confirm the details on the official pages linked below before you act.
Provincial registration. B.C. runs a Short-Term Rental Registry under the Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act. Hosts must register each short-term rental unit and pay annual registration fees. Once registered, you receive a provincial registration number that must be shown on your listing. Registrations are renewed each year. The Province can order compliance, issue administrative penalties and have listings removed from platforms.
The principal residence requirement. In many B.C. communities, short-term rentals are limited to the host’s principal residence, meaning the place you live day to day, plus one additional unit such as a secondary suite or accessory dwelling unit on the same property. The Province’s list of communities includes Vancouver. Local bylaws can be stricter than the provincial rule.
Local licences. Provincial registration is separate from local requirements. Where a local government requires a business licence, you must show the licence number on your listing. The City of Vancouver requires a short-term rental business licence if you rent your home for less than 90 consecutive days. The City says the property must be your principal residence, strata or landlord approval is needed before you apply, and the licence number must be included in all online listings. Confirm the full eligibility rules directly with the City of Vancouver.
What the rules do not cover. None of this regulates the standard of cleaning. But the rules affect your operation. You are a registered host with a number on your listing, a platform that can remove the listing for non-compliance and, in many cases, a rental that is also your home.

What the Rules Mean for Your Turnovers
Because many hosts live in the property and rent it while away, or rent a room or a suite, turnover cleaning often has to fit around your own life. Three practical points follow.
- Reviews protect your listing. A registered, licensed listing still lives or dies on guest reviews. Cleanliness is one of the biggest factors guests mention, so a consistent turnover is part of staying in business.
- Cleaning is a time cost. If you live in the home, turnover day can eat your weekend. A cleaning company frees that time.
- Consistency beats heroics. A written checklist, the same standard each time, and a plan for same-day check-ins reduce mistakes.

Making Same-Day Turnovers Work
Back-to-back bookings are where most hosts feel the pressure.
- Sync calendars so you see check-outs and check-ins in one place.
- Set check-out and check-in times that leave enough time for a proper clean.
- Share the schedule with your cleaner as early as you can, and tell them about early arrivals.
- Keep a reserve linen set so laundry delays do not delay the next guest.
- Plan a periodic deep clean. Heavy use means more buildup. Schedule a deep cleaning several times a year, and add carpet cleaning or upholstery cleaning when the unit needs a refresh.
What to Ask a Turnover Cleaning Company
- Are you available seven days a week, including weekends and holidays?
- Can you handle same-day check-out and check-in?
- What is included in a turnover, and what costs extra?
- Are cleaners insured and background-checked?
- Who handles laundry and restocking?
- How do you report damage or missing items?
- What is your guarantee if something is missed?
- How do I reach you if a guest arrives early?

Airbnb Turnover Cleaning FAQs
What is Airbnb turnover cleaning?
It is the clean between guest stays: bathrooms and kitchen cleaned, beds changed, floors done, supplies restocked and the unit checked before the next check-in. Turnovers are usually faster than a deep clean because the unit is maintained regularly.
Do BC short-term rental rules affect how I clean?
No rule sets a cleaning standard. The rules affect your registration, licensing and whether the unit qualifies, and they put your listing at risk if you do not follow them. Check the Province’s and the City of Vancouver’s official pages for what applies to you.
Can a cleaner handle same-day check-out and check-in?
Yes, with planning. Share your booking calendar, set realistic check-out and check-in times and tell your cleaner about early arrivals. Cleaning4U works with hosts on schedules built around their bookings.
How often should a short-term rental get a deep clean?
Heavily used units benefit from a deep clean several times a year, in addition to routine turnovers. A deep clean reaches baseboards, grout, behind and beneath appliances and buildup that routine turnovers miss.
